To the extent that your clients are involved in the mediation process, voluntarily, or by court order, understanding that process, and the ethical rules and standards governing mediation in Florida, will better enable mediation participants to engage in mediation meaningfully and effectively.
A description and overview of mediation, and the role of the mediator, will be followed by a presentation of the relevant Standards of Conduct for Certified and Court-Appointed Mediators. Also presented, will be selected Mediator Ethics Advisory Committee (MEAC) Opinions relevant to family mediation. Time permitting, a teaching video from the Harvard Program on Negotiation will be utilized as appropriate. My presentation style is to be highly interactive and engaging, so unless you instruct otherwise, I will involve the group in the presentation as much as possible.
Participants will have a better understanding of the:
- Mediation in Florida
- Rules, Standard of Conduct and Florida Statutes governing mediation in Florida
- Importance of ethics in mediation, and the consequences of unethical conduct by the mediator
