Good Morning, FMHCA Members
Please see message below from the FMHCA Lobbyist, Corinne Mixon
Tuesday's general election produced record turnout and record early and vote by mail voting by the people of Florida. An excess of 11 million votes were cast in the state. Republicans are celebrating Florida victories where the party performed very well on Tuesday. Please see the below and attached reports.
As you likely know, the Presidential race remains too close to call. The balance of power in the US Senate is still undecided. Seven seats are still not called as of this report. The US House of Representatives will, at a minimum, remain in Democratic control, with final numbers still in process.
At the State level, the House and Senate both remain in Republican control with majorities of 76 Republicans to 44 Democrats and 23 Republicans to 17 Democrats, respectively. Notably, Senate District 37 which is currently held by Democrat José Javier Rodríguez is headed for a recount with the incumbent democrat down by a slim 28 votes as of Wednesday morning. There were no Florida statewide offices up for reelection this cycle such as the Governor, Cabinet or either US Senators.
There were only a few incumbent members of the Florida’s Congressional Delegation and State Legislature who lost their reelection bids:
- Rep. Jennifer Webb (D) – HD 69
- Rep. Cindy Polo (D) -- HD 103
- Rep. Delores Hogan Johnson (D) – HD 84
- Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) – HD 26
- Congresswoman Donna Shalala (D) – HD 27
