Hello, SMHCA family. I just want to say that I am so very proud of the accomplishments of FMHCA's administrative staff, board and committee members, and general membership. We made several contributions to the latest edition of AMHCA's The Advocate Magazine, which can be downloaded by clicking here. FMHCA was very much highlighted in this issue.
Our E.D., Diana Huambachano, wrote articles on our successful annual conference (pages 18-19) and the passing of our licensure portability bill (pages 20-21). We also wrote articles on AMHCA becoming a member of the International Association for Counseling (pages 7-8), FMHCA's efforts to equip its members during the pandemic (page 22), and an article on COVID-19-related precautions in counseling centers (24-26). Also one of FMHCA's founders (and a current member and former board member of FMHCA as well as SMHCA), Dr. Jim Messina, wrote an article on pages 36-40 on the CMHC's role in treating chronic pain.
Now, here's a challenge I want to offer to our membership:
Note that on page 9 there is a call for articles for the next issue, which will focus on diversity and policing. I'm sure many of you have something important to contribute, so I encourage you to submit a proposal if that is the case. And while you're at it, you can write the same article for FMHCA's InSession Magazine!
One more thing, if you're not a member of AMHCA (our parent chapter), please consider joining at www.amhca.org. Their work is so important in advocating for our profession on a national level. For example, check out the Medicare update on page 6.
