Graduate Student Representative
The Graduate Student Representative Chair serves as the primary liaison between graduate students and the SMHCA Board, ensuring that student perspectives are represented in organizational initiatives, decisions, and programming. This role provides leadership, coordination, and strategic direction for graduate student engagement across affiliated academic programs.
Leadership & Coordination
- Recruit, onboard, and support Graduate Student Representatives from local universities and counseling programs.
- Provide ongoing guidance, structure, and accountability to ensure active participation and outreach.
- Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among student representatives.
Student Advocacy & Representation
- Serve as the primary voice for graduate students at board meetings.
- Identify and communicate student needs, concerns, and trends to SMHCA leadership.
- Advocate for policies, resources, and initiatives that support student development and well-being.
Strategic Development
- Develop and implement initiatives to increase graduate student engagement, membership, and retention.
- Identify gaps in student involvement and create targeted strategies to address them.
- Collaborate with board members and committees to align student-focused efforts with organizational goals.
Communication & Outreach
- Ensure consistent and accurate communication between SMHCA and graduate students across programs.
- Promote SMHCA events, trainings, and opportunities to student populations.
- Strengthen relationships between academic institutions and the organization.
Event & Program Support
- Assist in the planning and promotion of student-focused events, including networking opportunities, trainings, and workshops.
- Collaborate with committees (e.g., Professional Development) to enhance student access to continuing education and professional growth.
