We are between legislative sessions, so there are no bills to report on, but FMHCA's Government Relations Committee (GRC) is busily working on several legislative and policy issues between sessions.
- FMHCA will soon be sending a kit to all regional chapters for a summer project that involves building bridges with legislators in an effort to improve FMHCA's influence during the upcoming legislative session.
- The GRC has created a Reimbursement Policy Subcommittee to investigate reports of issues involving unfair clawbacks and reimbursement practices of third party payers.
- The GRC's DOE Policy Subcommittee is advocating for two rule changes that would include LMHCs in a list of professionals whose (a) diagnoses may be used for eligibility for the public vocational rehabilitation program, and (b) evaluations may be considered for ESE program eligibility within the school system. You can read their report by clicking here.
- The GRC/FFTA 491 Board Disciplinary Report Taskforce is working on the 2025-2026 disciplinary report, which would educate counselors about law/rule violations and avoiding pitfalls. You can read the previous year's report by clicking here (2024-2025).
- The GRC/FFTA AI Policy Taskforce completed a report for the FMHCA Board of Directors recommending adopting a policy stance on the use of AI in counseling. That report can be accessed by clicking here.
Additionally, a few noteworthy decisions were made during the 491 Board meeting on 5/29/26, but we are holding off on reporting on those decisions until the Board posts the official meeting minutes, which are not yet available.
